CRESCO | A man has been charged in his wife's death and a standoff with police early Thursday in Cresco. 

Brian Fullhart, 34, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Zoanne Fullhart, 34, of Decorah, law enforcement said in a news release. He also faces charges for going armed with intent.

Court documents say Brian Fullhart shot his wife with a handgun early Thursday at a mobile home in Cresco.

Upon arrival, officers were confronted by Brian Fullhart, who they said was barricaded in the residence. 

Brian Fullhart was uncooperative and threatened to shoot officers, according to a news release.

Court documents say he used a bow twice to fire arrows at officers who'd been sent to investigate gunshot reports. The complaint says one arrow struck a squad car.

Police and the Iowa State Patrol negotiated with him for about five hours. 

He was eventually taken into custody without incident at 6:45 a.m. Officers then entered the residence and located Zoanne Fullhart's body. 

Brian Fullhart is being held in the Winneshiek County Jail in Decorah. 

The incident is being investigated by Iowa DCI and the Howard County Sheriff's Office.
