TITONKA | A Mason City man was arrested in Titonka after allegedly assaulting a woman he knew and then throwing her belongings across two counties.
Michael Arthur Rasmussen, 40, is charged with third-degree criminal mischief and domestic abuse assault -- first offense.
He was released after posting $3,000 bond.
The incident occurred about 7 a.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of North Ripley in Titonka, law enforcement said.
According to court documents, Rasmussesn allegedly assaulted a known woman by grabbing her by her wrist and arm and dragging her up the stairs of a residence.
Court documents say the woman, who was allegedly left with visible marks on her left arm, “was in fear for her life and ran with no shoes or coat on to a neighbor's house to call 911.”
Later, Rasmussen threw several bags with clothes, jewelry, personal hygiene products, and other items belonging to the woman out into the snow.

“Defendant lied about it claiming he did not do this,” law enforcement wrote in the criminal complaint.
The items, which the woman said were worth over $500, were scattered on county roads in Kossuth and Winnebago counties.
“The items were all covered in water and wet,” the criminal complaint said. “Defendant also smashed a SIM card belonging to the defendant.”
A no-contact order was filed Wednesday. According to court documents, the woman claimed she is still “in fear for her life” after the incident.
Rasmussen is scheduled to appear in Kossuth County District Court March 13. A non-jury trial for the domestic abuse charge is scheduled for April 20.
