KENSETT | A Kensett man was arrested for forgery after writing three checks totaling about $167 from a closed account.
Joseph James Buchite, 27, was charged with felony forgery following incidents between April 7 and April 17.
Buchite allegedly wrote three checks on a closed account to R-80 convenience store at 2 Maple Street in Kensett.
The closed account belonged to Mason City woman who received a certified notice from R-80 regarding the checks on her account and noticed she was missing about five checks, court documents said.
A Mason City Police officer called and talked with the manager of R-80 and the manager identified Buchite as the man who write the checks.
Buchite was also seen on video surveillance writing the checks. The first check was written about 7:38 p.m. April 7 for about $35. The second check was written around 2:41 p.m. April 9 for about $37. The third check was written at about 7:43 p.m. April 17 for about $94.
A statewide warrant for his arrest was issued May 2.
Warrant was served and Buchite was picked up at Worth County Jail and brought to Cerro Gordo County Jail.
He appeared for his initial appearance May 4 where he was released under the supervision of the Department of Correctional Services.
Buchite is scheduled to appear May 24 in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
