FOREST CITY | A man who was chased out of another man's apartment in Forest City in October has been sentenced to up to five years in prison.

Ryan Sergei Marek, 27, Forest City, pleaded guilty to felony third-degree burglary on April 5 in Winnebago County District Court. He was sentenced the same day.

A $750 fine was suspended, but he was ordered to pay a $125 surcharge.

Marek entered an apartment in the 200 block of North Clark Street at around 9 p.m. on Oct. 18 while the resident was inside, according to a Forest City Police Department criminal complaint.

The resident told police he chased Marek outside into the courthouse area.

Marek was arrested not long afterwards when police found him in the 300 block of West M Street, according to the complaint.

The original charge against Marek was second-degree burglary. That charge was reduced through a plea agreement.

In his written guilty plea, Marek stated he entered the apartment with the intent to commit theft.
