MASON CITY | A Florida man is accused of felony third-degree sexual abuse at a Mason City college.
Police say Rugde Joashua Hyppolite, 18, of Naples, Florida, conducted an unwanted sex act on a woman around 11 p.m. Sunday at NIACC's campus.
The woman told Hyppolite “no” and he continued, the criminal complaint said.
Hyppolite was arrested and booked at the Cerro Gordo County Jail Tuesday morning.
He is being held for $10,000 bond. No court date has been set.
Hyppolite signed as a point guard on NIACC's basketball team this summer, according to a news release from North Iowa Area Community College.
He did not appear on the team's online roster Tuesday, although he was included on the roster as recently as Sept. 22, according to archived version's of the school's website.
Head basketball coach Mark Mohl didn't immediately respond to a phone message from the Globe Gazette Tuesday.
Hyppolite was a student until "very recently," NIACC Marketing Director Valerie Zahorski-Schmidt said, but did not elaborate on the time period.
