MASON CITY - A Mason City man was arrested for choking, pushing and kicking a woman in a domestic assault incident Friday, police say.

Matthew Carl Hutchens, 47, was charged with misdemeanor domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury - first offense and domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow.

Court documents said the incidents occurred between 12 and 1 p.m. Friday at a residence on the 2800 block of Fourth Street Southwest in Mason City.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident was reported the next day when an officer was dispatched to the Mercy Medical Center ER for a domestic assault report.

The woman, who had bruises on her thighs and arm, told Mason City police that she and Hutchens had been arguing within the last few days, court documents said.

Court documents said the woman told police that Hutchens grabbed her by the neck, applying pressure to her neck for a few seconds; pushed her into a wall and table, causing her and the table to fall over and kicked her.

An X-ray showed the woman had two fractured ribs, charging documents said.

Hutchens was arrested, booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail and released on his own recognizance following his initial court appearance.

A no-contact order was issued Monday.

He is scheduled to appear in Cerro Gordo County District Court Sept. 28.
