BRITT | A Britt woman has been charged with entering an apartment at Summit House Assisted Living and stealing cash.

Randi Jo Chipman, 35, was arrested Saturday on a felony charge of third-degree burglary and a misdemeanor charge of dependent adult abuse.

While employed as a caregiver at the Britt assisted living facility, Chipman entered one of the apartments and took cash from a resident's purse while she wasn't there, according to a criminal complaint.

The Britt Police Department, with assistance from the resident and staff at the Summit House, set up a surveillance camera on July 13 after the resident reported money had been stolen from her purse in the past.

Police say money was marked, photographed and placed in the purse, which was set on a table in the apartment.

The police were contacted on July 15 and told money had been taken from the purse.

While reviewing recording from the surveillance camera, police observed Chipman walk into the apartment, go to the table, take money from the purse and put it in her back pocket, according to the complaint.

Chipman allegedly admitted to also taking a $50 bill the resident had noticed missing on June 28.

Chipman was released Sunday from the Cerro Gordo County Jail after bond was posted. Her next court appearance is on Aug. 16.
