GARNER | A Britt man has been sentenced to probation and given a suspended prison sentence for possessing child porn on his computer.

Seth Edward Buck, 37, was placed on two years of probation Friday after pleading guilty to four counts of misdemeanor sexual exploitation of a minor during a hearing in Hancock County District Court.

Judge Adam Sauer also ordered Buck to register as a sex offender and to be under the supervision of the Iowa Department of Corrections for 10 years, with eligibility for parole. He was fined $2,500, half of which was suspended.

If he violates his probation, he could face four two-year prison sentences, which would run concurrently, or at the same time. Credit would be given for time previously served in connection with the charges.

Buck was initially charged with three counts of felony sexual exploitation of a minor — promote film and four counts of misdemeanor purchase/possess depiction of minor in a sex act — first offense in March.

The felony counts, which carry a maximum sentence of up to two years in prison per count, were dismissed through a plea agreement.

Buck’s attorney, Scott Michels, recommended he receive a deferred judgement, noting he accepted responsibility and pleaded guilty, as well as his “strong familial relationships,” “minimal criminal history,” and, citing research, is “a lesser likelihood to reoffend” because the offense involved child porn, not child sexual abuse.

Michels said, in a court document, Buck’s involvement in sex offender treatment programming should help him “address his atypical sexual interests.”

Wright County Sheriff’s Office investigators found four images of underage girls engaging in sex acts on Buck's computer after it was seized during a search warrant on June 15, 2016, court documents said.

The documents also state between Feb. 4, 2016, and June 15, 2016, Buck is accused of possessing a computer program of underage girls engaging in sex acts.

Hancock County deputies arrested him on a warrant in Britt in March.
