MASON CITY | A civil lawsuit involving four North Iowans and the Second Judicial Department of Correctional Services is scheduled to begin tomorrow in Mason City.
Scott Lovik, 47, Rudd; Heather Coombs, 41, Northwood; Leslie Coe, 39, Mason City; and Michele Gordon, 54, Mason City, sued the department in March 2017. They all obtained right-to-sue letters from the Iowa Civil Rights Commission before filing the suit.
All four worked as residential officers and applied for the position of community program monitor in 2014. They argued a younger person with less experience was hired for the position, according to court documents.
Jurors are to determine the amount of financial damages if they find the department guilty of age discrimination, court documents say.
The trial is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
