“Our shelters are vital in giving those in dire need a place to go. Those in domestic abuse who have made the decision to get out of a harmful situation, deserve help," Hovland said. "Our veterans, across the state of Iowa, have an option, when needed."

Gov. Kim Reynolds will take a tour of the shelters as well as attend the Aug. 20 event. Director Kingery stated that over 500 to 600 clients per year/on average, with 20 to 30 of those being veterans, are utilizing the services offered through Northern Lights Alliance for the Homeless.

The shelters are sustained by grants and private donations. Fundraisers are also part of the incoming funding.

Director Jeannie Kingery has worked with the musical group, the Little River Band, which came to Mason City last year to put on a veterans fundraiser for Courage Hall. This year, on Nov. 3, the fundraiser will be held at Diamond Jo Casino with the Little River Band performing again along with Ambrosia. Tickets are available for that event through the Northern Alliance Homeless Shelter.

Sponsorships for the Aug. 20  event are being offered at $100 and above. Anyone who would like to be a sponsor or would like to purchase a ticket may contact Kingery at 641-423-5920.
