John A Zook of Boy Scout Troop 1012, Mason City, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award in Boy Scouts. He will be recognized at an Eagle Court of Honor at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2018, at the North Iowa Regional Commerce Center. All friends, family, and fellow scouts are invited to attend the ceremony and reception.
John is the son of Danette Zook and the late Al Zook. In addition to John earning his Eagle rank, his father, Al, earned the Eagle rank 43 years earlier, and his cousin, Logan Pearce, earned the rank February 14, 2012.
John Started Scouts in 2006 as a Bobcat Scout at Newman Elementary. He participated in Pinewood Derby car races and Rain gutter Regattas, camping, and other scout activities with his dad, Al. Al was the Cub Scout leader until his death in 2008. His other leaders in Cub Scouts over the years included Dr. Steve Snyder and Jeremy Klatt. He earned the Arrow of Light and crossed over into Boy Scout Troup 1012 in 2011. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow in 2013. His scoutmasters and assistant scoutmasters have included Paul Hubbard, Kent Studer, and Dr. Steve Snyder.
In June 2017, John completed his Eagle Project which included painting the interior and the exterior of the Owen Grove Schoolhouse from Owen Township, which was built in 1873. The Owen Grove Schoolhouse in now located on the North Iowa Events Center property and is utilized for special events.
In June 2018, John graduated as an honor student from Mason City High School. He is attending Iowa State University in Ames pursuing a degree in design.
