NORTHWOOD — Three men have been charged in the sexual assault of a 27-year-old woman who authorities say was assaulted while she was unconscious at a home in Manly 0n Dec. 5 — the same home where authorities investigated a woman’s death the next day.
On Dec. 6, the Manly Police Department responded to 327 E. Elmore St. and reported it was investigating the death of 27-year-old Brigett Wirtjes.
One of the three men charged Thursday with the alleged sexual assault is Tyler Wirtjes, 27, the husband of the woman found dead in the home.
Also facing charges of second-degree sexual abuse in the Dec. 5 incident are 19-year-old Jason Walker of Manly and 19-year-old Zachary Michael Patterson of Mooresville, N.C., according to Worth County District Court records.
The three men are being held in the Worth County Jail without bond.
Police were called to the Manly address on Dec. 6 on a report that a woman there was unresponsive and not breathing.
Police later contacted the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and requested its assistance in the case, as reported in a story published in the Dec. 18 Globe Gazette.

Manly Police Chief Jim O’Keefe on Thursday would not confirm the victim in the assault case was Brigett Wirtjes. He said officials do not identify victims of alleged sexual assault.
O’Keefe said no other charges are pending.
According to complaints filed by the Worth County Sheriff’s Department, the three men and the alleged victim had been drinking and the assault occurred after the woman passed out.
Officers with the Manly Police Department and agents with the DCI made the arrests.
Conviction of the Class B felonies could result in up to 25 years in prison.
