OSAGE | For several members of the Osage and St. Ansgar High School Speech Teams, they had just finished taking their final bows at their fall productions, when they found themselves preparing to compete in their first speech contest of the season.

On Saturday, Dec. 2 approximately two dozen students along with their coaches Lisa Garrelts, Osage, and Randy Mogk, St. Ansgar, participated in the Top of Iowa Conference Speech Tournament, hosted this year at Lake Mills High School.

Competing and placing at the tournament for Osage were - Group Improvisation - first place - Macy Ott, Seth Phillips, Jenna Plotzke, and Zach Duren; Prose - first place - Macy Ott and second place - Hailey Gentz; and Storytelling - third place - Macy Ott.

Competing for St. Ansgar were Theo Blades, Shaw Hulshizer, Matt Gilmore, Christian Eckard, Uziel Mendoza, Hunter Teichmeier, Kat Henning, Jadyn North, Sarah Phelps, Harmony Clark, Jade Thomas, Xavier Patterson, Abby Wold and Josh Staley.

The Iowa High School Speech Association contest season begins on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2018 with District Large Group Contests.
