Healthy Harvest (HH) of North Iowa will host a “Meat” and Greet event from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at Opportunity Village, 1200 N 9th St W, Clear Lake.
This meeting will allow local restaurants and grocery meat buyers to visit with local meat producers, face to face, to learn about meat production and availability in North Iowa. Each producer will have an opportunity to highlight their farm, products and production practices so buyers can learn about options for purchasing local meat. Small to medium sized meat producers and local meat buyers are encouraged to attend. Full event details are available on the HH website: www.healthyharvestni.com.
Demand for local and sustainable food sources is growing. Interest in where food comes from and how it is raised increases as consumers continually learn about the health, environmental, and economic impact of food production. Following the “Meat” and Greet portion of the meeting, producers are invited to stay for a round table discussion about collaborative opportunities at the Clear Lake and North Iowa Farmers Markets.
“We have been looking into a variety of ways to help promote and market local meat in North Iowa” said Andrea Evelsizer, Program Director for Healthy Harvest of North Iowa. “We hope this event will allow producers and buyers a chance to interact and will facilitate increased local meat sales. We also plan to discuss an innovative way to provide Farmers Market customers a more consistent supply of local meat at the markets in Cerro Gordo County.”
This meeting is hosted by Healthy Harvest of North Iowa and supported by a North Central S.A.R.E. (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education) grant.
