Forest City | Mary Malfero Luchan Olson, 78, formerly of Mason City, died Tuesday (July 19, 2017) at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus, Rochester, MN.
A funeral service was held 11:00 a.m. Monday (July 24, 2017) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City with Rev. Kathy Graves, officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, in her private mausoleum.
Visitation was held from 2 p.m.–4 p.m. Sunday (July 23, 2017) at the funeral chapel and one hour prior to service time, Monday.
Mary Malfero Luchan Olson was born on July 24, 1938 to Nicholas and Lila (Leer) Malfero.
She was a 1956 graduate of Mason City High School and later, Mason City Junior College. For a short time, she worked at the Mason City Public Library as an assistant children's librarian.
She married Mike Luchan and following his death, Mary moved to New York City and began working. She worked as an executive assistant in law firms for over 40 years.
Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to many places around the world. She was united in marriage to Herb Olson on June 10, 1998 at Garner. She returned to Mason City several years ago, to care for her mother.
Mary is survived by her husband, Herb Olson, Forest City; brother, Gary (Mary) Malfero, Mason City; sister, Sandra (Dan) Trombi, Las Vegas, NV; several nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph Malfero; niece, Debbie Shoop and husband, Mike Luchan.
