MASON CITY | Walk up the two steps and into this large two-floor ranch-style house at 2890 Rainbow Court in western Mason City, and several things are immediately striking.
One is the condition of the home. Built by Mike Momberg Building of Mason City in 2006, it rivals the look of a new house. It obviously has been well-taken care of by its previous two owners and is move-in ready for the third after the last owner retired and moved away.
Another is the beautiful maple woodwork throughout and the Woodharbor Custom Cabinetry cabinets.
And yet another is the large doors that lead to the deck and a view of fields to the north that may someday hold more houses abutting the Sunset Ridge development and perhaps even a little lake. But for now, it is indeed where city meets country with a special view of the four seasons.
It is also a large house, awaiting the special touches of its new owner. It has over 4,000 square feet, roughly 2,100 each on the main and lower levels.
The main level is brightly lit, with a kitchen skylight and those large deck doors complemented by recessed lighting. A well-maintained laminate floor extends throughout the kitchen and great room, suitable for any purpose.
The kitchen and great room are melded by an island with built-in burners ideal for a quick snack or full meal.
Kitchen countertops are ceramic and “look just like brand new,” says real estate agent Jim Vaith, who is listing the home for $359,900.
Stainless-steel appliances are built-in and include an LG refrigerator, Amana microwave and Jenn-Air oven and microwave.
“A walk-in pantry is kind of a feature of the kitchen,” said Vaith of the large storage space with unique glass in the door.
Abutting the island, it doesn’t take much to imagine the great room as a combination of dining area and space to relax, either formally or informally.
The gas fireplace looks inviting and there is built-in maple shelving around it to allow for ample display of photos and memorabilia.
The house is well-built for a family or for entertaining friends for a weekend with its five bedrooms – four up and one down. The previous owner, of course, took all the wall hangings and furnishings with her, so the new owner will have free rein in creating rooms tailored to kids, adults or both.
The master bedroom, with beautiful natural light as is the case with much of the main floor, is spacious at 14-by-15 square feet.
It features a large walk-in closet with six shelves and cubbyhole storage for shoes, purses and other items that need to be tucked away.
The master bathroom is large with a lighted vanity and jet tub and a separate shower.
Completing the main floor is a utility room with front-loading Samsung washer and dryer.
Moving down the steps to the lower level, “The fully finished basement is one of the nicest things of the whole house,” Vaith says.
There’s no arguing that. Along with the fifth bedroom, there is a craft room, theater room and family room with a wet bar, and wine refrigerator and wine rack.
“It’s a nice setup, all finished up with the same trim work down there as is on the first floor,” Vaith said.
And to help make the furnace and air-conditioning more efficient, there are ceiling fans throughout.
The house has a three-stall garage with double and single doors.
A spacious, south-facing front porch looks out over the neighborhood and is highlighted by stone on the pillars. Siding is made of cement board.
