“Cotton Patch Gospel” is the story of Jesus set in modern rural Georgia. The fast-moving, high-energy show has been a popular musical in the South since the 1970s.
It features bluegrass music and lyrics by Harry Chapin and book by Tom Key and Russell Treyz.
The 32 characters are played by five actors who have the ability to change characters in a breath.
The Southern-laced humor includes lines such as “Man shall not live by grits alone” and “They wrapped baby Jesus in a quilt and laid him in an apple crate.”
Instrumental music and vocals are provided by Dan Pennington, Jayme Sedars and Elias Wunderlich.
The cast of actors, singers and dancers includes Daniel Daugherty, Josiah Wunderlich, Leigh Drzycimski, Diane Wunderlich, John Lander, Abe Hackman, Dani Miller and Kayli Bender – all skilled performers who bring years of experience to the stage.
The show is directed by Wendy Mahoney.
