CLEAR LAKE -- The Clear Lake Arts Center announces schedule of events for the Winter Dance Party: Free movies, "Rave On Xlll," Everly Brothers presentations and a DIY poodle skirt workshop.
• Poodle skirt workshop: 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28. No sewing required. Workshop fee is $25 ($20 for Arts Center members). A supply list can be found online at www.clartscenter.com or it can be picked up at the center at 17 S. Fourth St. during regular business hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Workshop participants can also purchase supplies from the Arts Center for an additional $25. The poodle skirt pattern is a quick and simple design. Seamstresses with sewing machines will be onsite to help with sewing waistbands and seams while participants design, cut out and apply the embellishments for their skirts. Registration is required. • Free movie: "The Real Buddy Holly Rockumentary." Learn more about the life of Buddy Holly at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-4. The film is Paul McCartney's video biography of rock Holly. Seating is limited; guests are encouraged to come early.
• "Don & Phil Everly Brothers Home Again!" Join the Iowa Rock & Roll Music Association at 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, for a presentation on the history of the Everly Brothers, from Shenandoah. Presenter Bill Hillman will share stories and memorabilia exclusive to the Everlys’ formative years in Shenandoah.
• "Rave On XII" art exhibit. It includes various art works by regional artists depicting scenes and artifacts inspired by rock legends of the '50s.
The Clear Lake Arts Center is located at 17 S. Fourth St. in downtown Clear Lake. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
