Theo Baldus, Central College freshman and St. Ansgar native, is having a successful first year as a thrower for the Central College men’s track and field team.
When asked why he chose Central, Baldus said,
“I had an overnight visit, which I really enjoyed. I got to meet all of the throwers,” Baldus said. “It felt like a family”
At his first indoor track meet on December 8, Baldus won the weight throw with a mark of 47 feet, 1 1/2 inches. For his outdoor season, Baldus has made strides with placing eighth in shot put at the Blue Oval Invitational at Drake Stadium on April 12, eighth in discus throw at Drake Relays on April 26, and most recently, placing third in discus on May 4 at a track meet in Monmouth, Illinois, helping the Dutch secure a runner-up title.
Currently, Baldus’ career outdoor highs for the hammer throw is 138-8, shot put 42-9.5 and discus 151-8.

Baldus said his favorite part of being on the track team is the relationships he has with his teammates.
“They are always a lot of fun to be with and I really enjoy hanging out with them,” he said.
Even though this season has been a successful start, Baldus has high hopes for the seasons to come.
“I want to be on the top 10 leaderboard for Central. I would also like to qualify for nationals,” Baldus said. “That would be really cool.”
