Captains for this year's St. Ansgar baseball team are John May, Mark Williams, Colin Kramer and Jack Sievert.

ST. ANSGAR -- The St. Ansgar baseball team set high goals for the squad this season.

They want to be conference and district champions, earn a berth in the state tournament and "win the whole dang thing, said John May, one of the four team captains.

The Saints are good at pitching and defense,  but still need to work on hitting, said Colin Kramer.

Highlights of this season include going to Principal Park in Des Moines to play Belmond-Klemme and beating powerhouse Newman Catholic, according to Jack Sievert.

The Knights had their first loss of the season when playing at St. Ansgar on June 5.

Mark said the team has benefited from having more experience than last year, when the Saints went 18-11.

St. Ansgar will be even more experienced in 2020.

Kramer, a pitcher and infielder who has committed to playing for North Iowa Area Community College, is in his final season for the Saints.

However, a lot of players will be back next year.
