ELMA | The Saint Ansgar boys team struggled in their season-opening match at Maple Heights golf course, coming in fourth place overall, 67 strokes behind first-place Northwood Kensett with a team score of 266.
The Saints had one player, Brody Patterson, finish in the top 10, as he placed ninth, with a nine-hole score of 58. Northwood Kensett took three of the top five spots. Derek Peterson of Saint Ansgar finished 16th, with a score of 66, while Noah Michaels and Sawyer Smith tied for 19th, at 71 strokes each.
In the team standings, RRMR finished second at 208, nine strokes back of Northwood Kensett. Riceville shot 249 for third place.
The Saint Ansgar boys team finished in third place behind Northwood Kensett and North Butler at Northwood Community College on April 5, it's second last-place finish in four days.

Beau Thompson of North Butler came in first place at 42 strokes, with teammate Jaden Mason close behind at 45, good for third. Five Northwood Kensett golfers placed in the top 10, with Drew Wilder finishing second with a score of 44. Brody Patterson was the only top-10 finisher for Saint Ansgar. He shot a 54. Teammate Derek Peterson shot a 63, good for 13th, and Noah Michaels took 15th, with 66 strokes.
In the overall team standings, Northwood Kensett shot 196 to win the event, and North Butler finished second, at 203.
Monday night, the Saints hosted Newman-Catholic and West Fork in a meet. Results were not available at press-time. Tuesday night they travel to Northwood. The Saints host Nashua-Plainfield and Osage on Friday night in a triangular meet.
