The Osage baseball team beat North Fayette Valley by a score of 2-0 on Friday, July 5, eking out a victory with only one hit, but several well-timed walks.
Freshman Tyler Oberfoell got the start, and went 6 ⅓ innings, and allowed no runs on three hits.
The Green Devils scored the only runs of the game in the fifth inning, without collecting a single base-hit. With one out, catcher Zach Williams drew a walk. He advanced to second base on a walk by second baseman Lucas Weigle. North Fayette Valley pitcher Brooks Hovden then walked a third straight batter, to load the bases.
With Oberfoell at the plate, the ball got past the catcher, allowing the runner from third base to score. A throwing error from the first baseman then allowed the runner from second to score, and the Green Devils took an eventual 2-0 lead, the winning margin.
The two teams then took a 25-minute break and began to play a second game. But some dark clouds brought thunder and lightning, leading to the cancellation of the second game.
