RICEVILLE | Chris and Chad Eastman, brothers and co-captains of the Riceville High School wrestling team, have been wrestling since they were small.
Now Chad, a 160-pound senior, and Chris, a junior heavyweight, are looking to win sectionals and move on to districts before the season is through.
“The toughest team we will have to face is MFL Mar-Mac,” Chris said. “We already faced them once and got beat by them, but they will be at conference and districts.”
A team made up of primarily younger wrestlers, the captains said they believe one of their strengths are closeness and their ability to work together easily.
“Our team goal is to do the best we can do and be the best we can be and try to have a good record with the little number of guys we have,” Chad said.
The captains said they considered working hard and showing up at every practice to be their personal strengths.
“I try to encourage my teammates when we have a tough dual or when my teammates are in a tough match, and cheer them on win or lose,” Chris said.
Over their years in wrestling, the captains said they have learned the importance of picking themselves back up after a loss, reflecting on what went wrong and figuring out how to improve it without being negative.
“It’s important to work hard and never give up,” Chad said. “No matter how big of a loss you have suffered, you have to move on from it.”
