This Thursday, July 11, is a holiday to help us out – National Cheer Up the Lonely Day.
Just as it says, the day was created to cheer up lonely people.
If you happen to know anyone who feels lonely, this day is a chance to make someone smile.
The day was started by Francis Pesek in Detroit.
He decided to create the day after witnessing the loneliness of people in nursing homes.
Pesek chose July 11 because it was his birthday.
So how do you cheer someone up?
First of all, ask yourself, “What cheers up my day?”

Everyone has different preferences but generally, it doesn’t take a lot to make your day better.
Oftentimes, lonely people lack human interaction and contact, so a cheerful presence can be just enough.
However, here are a couple of other ideas you can try:
• You can surprise them with any hand-crafted gift with a heartfelt note.
• You can give a photo to them which depicts a happy memory.
• If they use a computer, send them a link of a cheerful song and have them listen to it.
No matter where you are or what situation you might be in, you can participate in National Cheer Up the Lonely Day.
Be it through spending time with someone or even simply making a phone call, with a sincere heart and a creative mind you can make someone’s day a little bit happier.
