OSAGE | Three Osage high school students, seniors Emma Adams and Katelyn Halbach, and junior Erica Nasstrom, have been selected a second time as members of the All-Iowa State Dance team.
The girls, who have been part of the dance team since it was created three years ago, will perform during the halftime of the state girls basketball game in the spring.
The Osage Dance Team will compete at state championships in Des Moines Thursday, Nov. 29 in a pom and kick routine.
“We all have the same goal and the same mindset, which is to look good at state,” Adams said.
With 250 dancers performing on the All-Iowa Dance Team, the three said they know they need to be focused and execute their techniques to the best of their ability and in sync with others on the team.
“It’s more of a thing you do by yourself, first, in learning your part, getting your mind right, then it becomes about the team,” Nasstrom said.
The dancers have a lot riding on the state competition. For Adams and Halbach, it will be their final time to compete.
“Dance has taught me leadership and teamwork,” Halbach said. “We all have to know what’s going on at all times or it won’t look good.”
Last year, their team placed second. This year, they are hoping to win their division.
Adams and Halbach said they want to continue in dance as a club activity or through a dance marathon. Adams wants to try out for a collegiate team.
“We’ve all learned focus and teamwork by being a part of dance,” Halbach said.
