STACYVILLE | The Stacyville Community Nursing Home has a new administrative team.
Members include Kay Fravel, Administrator, Barb Wendel, Director of Nursing and Jeannie Laube, Assistant Director of Nursing and Infection Control.
Each of the women bring a great deal of experience to their positions.
Fravel began her elderly care experience as a CNA while in high school. Over the years, she has worked in various areas of the health care system. Wendel graduated with a nursing degree, from North Iowa Area Community College, in 1992, then entered the health care field. Laube graduated from NIACC with a Practical Nursing Degree.
Each of the women say they bring a similar passion for serving the residents at the nursing home.
“I have dedicated my career to serving the elderly, and their health care needs,” Fravel said. “I want to bring about 'old school' standards like logic, common sense, ethics, compassion and integrity, which we can sometimes lose sight of, but that’s why we get into this profession.”
Commending her two directors, Fravel said, “During this harsh winter weather, they have put in long hours to cover for other floor staff who couldn’t make it in. We have a united front and that makes for a very strong leadership team.”
Wendel said, “The best part of my job has been working with our caring and nurturing floor staff. I am still learning, and working with Jeannie helps make my job a lot easier. It allows me a lot of latitude to learn what I need to learn. I have also grown a lot working with Kay.”
“I guess what I would like to see change around here is things become a little more state of the art,” Laube said. “It truly is a family around here.”
“I think we have put together a good team here,” Fravel said. “Our goal is when a family member walks through our doors looking for a place for their loved one, we want them to be able to say, ‘I have found the perfect home for them.’ ”
