St. Ansgar Physics Team

CEDAR FALLS | A team from St. Ansgar High School has qualified for a state physics competition. 

The St. Ansgar physics class traveled to Cedar Falls to compete in the AEA 267 Regional Physics Olympics Competition on March 26. 

St. Ansgar took home the team gold medal to qualify for the state competition to be held April 9, also in Cedar Falls. 

Around 150 students from nine schools participated in the regional competition. 

St. Ansgar students placed in the top three in the following individual events:

• 1st Place, Soda Straw Arm -- Sara Phelps and Chloe Levan.  

• 2nd Place, Catapult -- Jadyn Anderson and Sam Hemann. 

• 2nd Place, Challenge Problem -- Erik Gerdts and Addy Carlson. 

• 3rd Place, Challenge Problem -- Gabbie Finberg and Emily Hemann. 

St. Ansgar students participating in the regional competition were Javier Amoloja, Jadyn Anderson, Addy Carlson, Christian Eckard, Erik Gerdts, Hannah Groth, Emily Hemann, Sam Hemann, Morgan Hemann, Chloe Levan, Sophia Mertenm, Mackenna Pannhoff, Sara Phelps, Sarika Rademacher, Jack Sievert, Bree Thomas, Lilly Vasquez, and Sophia Wold.
