ST. ANSGAR | The Saints Legacy Fund has provided the finances for six projects totaling more than $17,000 proposed by teachers in the St. Ansgar Schools.

All six of these projects were advanced by teachers in the schools, endorsed by principals and considered during the Saints Legacy Fund winter distribution cycle. Once completed, teachers are required to report on whether they achieved the expected outcomes from their project.

Two of the six approved projects target elementary students and are primarily focused on introducing new technologies in the classroom – Osmo and MakeyMakey. Osmo has been experimented with and will now be expanded for use by the entire third grade and Makey Makey is an elementary student tool for training computer coding.

Two of the six approved projects target primarily middle school students. The first is a Courage Retreat for seventh and eighth graders and a Respect Retreat for ninth graders. These retreats focus on self-esteem, anti-bullying and enhancing relationships. The second approved project is an Artist-In-Residency program and Showcase, developed as a collaboration between the music teachers and Cedar Summerstock Theater.

The final two approved projects target high school students. One is acquisition of chest waders for aquatic investigations and the second funds special programs for May term.

Turtle Creek Wind Farm LLC has recently committed to contributing annually to the Saints Legacy Fund for projects promoting access to culture and art; promoting social inclusion; promoting natural resources and biodiversity; and promoting energy efficiency. The Artist-In-Residency program is being funded by this incremental resource.
