Relay for life logo

The Mitchell County Relay For Life event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 at the CRC Event Center located at the Mitchell County Fairgrounds, Osage.

The event kicks off from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a luncheon consisting of a prime rib sandwich combo with baked beans, coleslaw and trimmings. Other options being offered will be a hamburger combo of baked beans and coleslaw, or a hot dog combo. Drinks will also be available. Carry outs will also be offered. The prime rib combo will be available for $7, hamburger combo for $5, and the hotdog combo for $4. The Mitchell County Cattlemen will be cooking the meats.

The afternoon events will begin at 12:30 p.m. with survivor registration, followed by the Opening Ceremony at 1 p.m. The opening prayer will be given by the Rev. Roy Ott and the National Anthem will be sung by Erica Nasstrom. A presentation will be made by Margaret Smolik, this year’s honorary co- chairman on her fight against her cancer.

Jesse Bless and Bill Carlson, this year’s emcees, will give the Empty Table Ceremony, followed by the presentation of the Survivor Walk, Luminaria Ceremony and plaque presentations.

The Riceville Community School will have a drumline performance, followed by the student jugglers from Sacred Heart School of Adams, Minnesota.

Mitchell County Sheriff Greg Beaver and Deputy J.W. Steinberg and his dog, Rev, will have a K9 presentation. There is a bean bag tournament being planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, contact Amy Siewertsen at 641-424-0132.

A Silent Auction will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sliced pork sandwiches will be available during the afternoon as well.

The Relay will conclude at 4 p.m. with an awards presentation and live auction.

Plan to attend this event to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Dollars secured will be used for research and developments in finding more cures to fight this terrible disease. The Cancer Society has made great progress as cancer deaths have decreased 27% during the past 5 years.

Come and attend this year’s Relay For Life. The event is free to attend at the air conditioned CRC Event Center in Osage.
