Mitchell County officials are considering merging the E-911 and Emergency Management departments.
During the May 21 Mitchell County Board of Supervisors meeting, Sheriff Greg Beaver said Ray Huftaliin, the county's current Emergency Management director, is resigning effective July 1.
Huftalin's position is part time. So is the E-911 director's position, currently held by Kris Olson, who also works part-time as a dispatcher for the county.
Beaver proposed combining the E-911 and Emergency Management departments and combining the two part-time director positions into one full-time position.
Olson spoke to the supervisors on May 28 about the proposal.

He said other counties around the state are combining their E-911 and Emergency Management departments "to try to save some money."
If the departments were combined, they would still need separate budgets, according to Olson.
The Emergency Management and E-911 boards will meet at 7 p.m. on June 12 to discuss the proposal.
"We are all kind of excited about it," said County Supervisor Barb Francis.
