OSAGE | Shop on State made 36 awards in its fall grant cycle, the largest number ever awarded.

The grants totaled $49,160.05 for non-profit recipients throughout Mitchell County.

To date, the donation-based thrift store has awarded a total of $226,470.30 since opening in May 2009. The success of the venture prompted a move to a larger facility – to Washington School – in October 2013. The wealth of furniture donations recently allowed volunteers to expand into yet another room at the school.

Those interested in donating items should do so during regular business hours, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first Saturdays of the month. Donations should be brought to the east door. Shoppers should use the south door.

Donations should include clean clothing, household items in working order, seasonal items and books.

Chris Fannin is manager, who operates the shop under the direction of a five-member board. Members are Sister Millie Leuenberger, OFS, Stacyville, president; Mark Fisk, Osage, secretary; Betty Borchardt, Riceville, treasurer; Gary Gilbert, and Holly Schwarck, St. Ansgar.
