Iowa at National 4-H Poultry and Egg Contest

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky | Mitchell County 4-H members Sarah Phelps and Hannah Koch represented the state of Iowa at the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference in Louisville Kentucky, November 14-15.

Phelps placed third in live poultry judging and 16th over in the poultry judging contest.

The conference, which recognizes senior 4-H members who have excelled in their state 4-H poultry learning activities, consisted of a poultry judging contest, where participants make decisions in an orderly manner, use reasoning skills, defend and communicate those decisions to contest officials.

Phelps, St. Ansgar and Koch, Osage, were coached by Kirk Phelps, St. Ansgar. They were chaperoned by Olivia Logue, Mitchell County 4-H and Youth Coordinator.

The two were able to attend the conference and compete through support from Hoovers Hatchery, the Iowa Poultry Association, Murray McMurray Hatchery, Absolute Energy, Mitchell County 4-H and Youth Committee and Mitchell County Extension Council.
