Mitchell County Conservation Board Naturalist Chelsea Rowcliffe is offering many outdoor experiences this summer for Mitchell County youth.

Discovery Day Camps - first and second graders

Help your child discover the wonders of nature this summer through Discovery Day Camps. Camps are being held on Wednesdays in July.

The age and grade ranges are based on the 2019-2020 school year.

All camps will meet at the Milton R. Owen Nature Center and require pre-registration. Registration is due by June 28.

* Students entering first and second grades, 9-11 a.m. on Wednesdays in July. Cost is $10 per student. Limit 25.

Tues, July 2 - “A Sense of Wonder,” nature through the five senses.

July 10 – “Nature Sense.”

July 17 - “The Unloved,” spiders, worms and snakes.

July 24 - “The Lorax.”

* Students entering fifth and sixth grades, 9-11 a.m. on Wednesdays in July. Cost is $10 per student. Limit 25.

Wednesday, July 3 – Native American skills – fire building, archery, survival, etc.

July 11 – “These Ol’ Bones,” backyard archaeology and skeletons,

July 18 – Geology ROCKS!

July 25 – Wild edibles

For any questions or rain cancellations, call (641) 330-0765. Cancellations will be only be made ½ hour before the class starts.

To ensure a better outdoor experience for children, please remember it is essential to dress properly for the 2-hour session. This means sunscreen, hats, shoes (not flip-flops) insect repellent (if you choose), and most definitely a water bottle.
