OSAGE | Chuck Long will speak at a combine meeting of the Osage Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs at noon on Wednesday, May 8 in the atrium of the Cedar River Complex, Osage.
The Hawkeyes’ great is featured in “Destined for Greatness.” The book, authored by Aaron Putze, captures the life and career of Long and resurgence of Iowa football under Coach Hayden Fry. It includes perspectives from Hayden, Kirk Ferentz, Hap Peterson, the Long family and Mark Vlasic, to name just a few.
Long will share memories of being recruited by Iowa, his first start versus Nebraska in 1982, earning a last-second win over No. 2 Michigan in a 1985 clash of Big-10 titans, taking snaps in a record five college bowl games, finishing runner-up to Bo Jackson for the 1985 Heisman Trophy and being selected in the first round of the 1986 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He’ll also allow plenty of time for Q&A.
