Forest City’s tough start to its season got a little tougher last Friday night when Garner-Hayfield-Ventura used a big second and fourth quarter to take care of the Indians 34-14.

The teams played to a 7-7 tie after a quarter of play as GHV struck first on a 10-yard touchdown run by Nick Joynt. Forest City answered immediately to tie the game when Ryan Saarie took the ensuing kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown.

Then came a second quarter which saw GHV score twice – one on a 25-yard run by Jace Pringnitz and the other on Joynt’s second TD of the night – to take a 21-7 lead into halftime.

Forest City came within one score when Luke Johnson hit Sam Snyder for a 15-yard touchdown.

The Cards had their answer in the final quarter with two more touchdowns by Joynt to go on to the 34-14 victory.

Johnson finished the game 17 for 28 for a190 yards and one touchdown.

Snyder hauled in nine passes for 86 yards and a score, Blaze Andersen had three catches for 76 yards, and Jaxon Jones had four receptions for 25 yards.

Defensively, linebacker Chris Jermeland racked up nine total tackles, including three for a loss and one sack. Jacob Olson added seven tackles, and Snyder and Wyatt Steffensen recorded 6 1/2 apiece.

Forest City (0-4, 0-2) hosts Clear Lake on Friday.
