So many have reached a point of despondency, even desperation nowadays. Looking at leaders, politicians, and all the people and institutions we used to rely on, all we seem to see is corruption and incompetence.
So, echoing the words of the Psalmist, we find ourselves asking: “Who can show us any good?” (Psalm 4:6)
Despite the pessimism in the air, there is an answer to this question, however. The psalmist provides the answer: “Let the light of your face shine upon us, Lord!” (Psalm 4:6)
Real goodness has only one source. It comes from the Lord! When He lifts up the light of His face upon us, that light dispels the gloom of uncertainty and pessimism. Instead, we are filled with joy: “Joy greater than when their grain and new wine abound!” (Psalm 4:7)
For those whose outlook is limited to the material realm, contentment and security can only be measured in terms of material abundance. But for those who have learned to look in faith to God, there is another source, inexhaustible and unfluctuating. That Divine source offers a satisfaction and peace that excels anything we can obtain from mere material abundance. Be encouraged by the words of James 1:17: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
A prayer: Let the light of your face shine upon me, Lord, so that I may see and enjoy the abundance of your provision. Amen.
