With the summer solstice, June 21, having finally arrived, I can now officially say it’s summer. The Earth has finally reached the point in its orbit where the Northern Hemisphere is pointed closest to the Sun, making this the beginning of the warmest time of the year.
It can be so easy to get caught up in our daily work – after all, we’re all busy people and it’s everything we can do just to finish our work by the end of the day.
However, we can’t forget to take a break every once in a while. Taking a break rejuvenates and refreshes the brain so we’re sharper and more focused when we get back to work. The classic example of this (and certainly the best) is sleep – that’s why it’s so important to get to sleep before a big exam or project.
Another excellent example of a break is a vacation. This is summer! And with Iowa winters being the way they are with all the snow, snow and more snow and the crazy low temperatures, one would be bonkers not to take advantage of the warm summer weather to take a vacation.
Go see some family, spend some time at the pool, travel places, go hiking. Exercise is also just as important as breaks. So put on those Hawaiian shirts and give yourself and your brain some love and care.
