The Mitchell’s at Bear Creek Restaurant has opened after a recent renovation to the golf course clubhouse.
“We definitely wanted to have something to provide to the golfers and for the community another place to eat and it just seemed like a right fit,” Julianna Burkholder said.
Burkholder, clubhouse pro-shop manager, said the clubhouse decided last year it wanted a restaurant, and so she became a waitress, bartender and clubhouse manager for the restaurant.
“It’s just kind of another job obligation I guess that I have,” she said.
Balancing her pro-shop duties with the restaurant is a little tough, but she is getting used to it and definitely needs to hire some help, Burkholder said.
“At first, it’s always a little overwhelming, but it’s getting pretty easier now,” she said.
Burkholder said one cook and three other assistant cooks were hired for the restaurant.
The clubhouse decided to team up with Jeff Mitchell, who owns Mitchell’s Bar and Grill in Leland, because the Leland restaurant already has a strong following, according to Burkholder.

Burkholder said Mitchell is in charge of hiring and training the cook staff and she is in charge of hiring and training the wait staff.
“It’s kind of a little bit of a process,” she said.
Mitchell said he was approached by the golf course board to run it and he told them he would just help them out, so he’s not really managing the restaurant.
“I’m just going to help them run the kitchen,” he said. “I have a cook out there that cooks for me, and that’s about all that we really do. Order the food in and do a couple events.”
In addition to the sandwiches and burgers, the restaurant has fish on Friday nights and hamburger steaks, according to Mitchell.
The restaurant so far has been really busy and “going good,” according to Burkholder.
Mitchell’s at Bear Creek is on the north wing of the Bear Creek Golf Course Clubhouse with the pro-shop and the full bar and is open Tuesday through Friday, 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.
