FOREST CITY | North Iowa Lumber and Design, Inc. is a place that can help with a simple do-it-yourself project to a complete remodel of a home. With a staff of five people, they pride themselves in being friendly and helpful to every customer who walks through the door.

“You could basically build a house from the ground up here,” said manager Gene Warner.

The store gives free estimates, for most projects. “We are able to answer any questions you have or we will find out the answer, so you don’t have to,” Warner said.

For painting projects, services include a color-matching machine to guarantee the paint is exact. The custom-matching paint comes from their partnership with Valspar. Staff also offer personal color consultation, “We strive in taking the guesswork out of choosing a color,” Warner said

Other services include a drafting service, key cutting, propane exchange and experienced workers.

If wanting to design a kitchen or other room, the staff at North Iowa Lumber and Design will work with your ideas and will follow through to the final installation.

They also offer free delivery in town. The store has a large variety of items to help with any project. They are a Hardware Hank supplier. The hardware they supply includes tools, electrical wiring devices, saws, and much more. The brands they carry include Schlage, DeWalt, Stanley, Chamberlain and Leviton.

The store is also part of the Dealer Service Network, which means they are able to look at your windows and update or service them. With this being North Iowa, they also pride themselves in winterization.

“We want to make sure our customers are comfortable here, and know there is no such thing as a dumb question, we are here to help,” Rhonda Sullivan said. “There is a lot of experience on this staff, so we can answer almost any question, and if we can’t we will make sure to figure it out for you.”

Staff are able to help with cabinets, doors, landscaping and screen repairs. They will even come to a customer’s home to analyze the problem, if they are unsure how to fix it.

Although this is a “small town store”, it is large and carries brands that would be found at large chain hardware stores, such as Kitchen Aid, Traeger, Design House, Bona and Milwaukee. If there is something needed for a project and they don’t have it, they also do referrals, and will work with the customer to make certain they have what they need.

“We are a big store, with a lot to offer,” Sullivan said, “but give our customers small-town customer service, where each customer feels welcome.”
