FOREST CITY | Hy-Vee, Inc. has announced it will be purchasing Shopko pharmacies in six more communities, including Forest City.
"We are very excited to welcome Shopko’s customers into the Hy-Vee family," said Christina Gayman, director of public relations for Hy-Vee, in a statement released Wednesday.
The actual details of the acquisition are still being finalized, but the Forest City Shopko pharmacy will transition to a Hy-Vee Pharmacy and will have a Hy-Vee Pharmacy sign, Gayman told the Summit-Tribune.
Details are still being finalized regarding each location’s pharmacy transfer timeline, and that information will be released in the coming weeks, according to Gayman.
The other five communities with Shopko pharmacies that are part of Hy-Vee's latest acquisition are Mount Ayr, Emmetsburg and Toldeo in Iowa; West Point, Nebraska; and St. Peter, Minnesota.
Shopko, which recently filed for bankruptcy protection, is closing nearly 80 of its 300 stores across the country and is conducting an auction process for its pharmacy business.

The Forest City Shopko retail store was not among the closings. It will remain a Shopko even though its pharmacy department will be owned and operated by Hy-Vee.
Hy-Vee, which says it is growing its pharmacy business, announced in December that it will take over a total of 22 Shopko pharmacies in the Midwest, including the one in Mason City.
