FOREST CITY | A Forest City has been charged with felony fraud for allegedly misrepresenting his employment status to receive more than $10,000 in benefits. 

Jon Emil Peterson, 43, faces a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison if he is convicted. 

Winnebago County Attorney Kelsey Beenken filed the charge of first-degree fraudulent practice on April 11.

The charging document states Peterson misrepresented his employment status and income from Jan. 4, 2015, to June 4, 2018, to Iowa Workforce Development to receive more than $10,000 in unemployment benefits to which he was not entitled. 

Peterson's arraignment is scheduled for May 7 in Winnebago County District Court.
