FOREST CITY | The Forest City High School Vocal Music Department will present its annual Spotlight Concert on Feb. 15 at the Boman Fine Arts Center.
The theme for this year's show is "Broadway Under the Stars."
The concert will include performances by the High School Concert Choir and the High School Honor Choir, as well as soloists and small groups.
The students will be singing tunes from "Mama Mia," "The Greatest Showman," and other popular musicals.
Small groups and soloists will sing pop music during the pre-show dinner, which will be served on the mezzanine.
The soloists and small groups choose what they want to sing.
“It’s really like a talent show,” said vocal student Micaiah Krutsinger.
“You will hear a lot of familiar tunes,” added Drake Bang.
The students in the vocal department look forward to Spotlight every year, according to Krutsinger.
Since Spotlight takes place during the second trimester, more students sign up for choir then so they can participate, he said.
“It’s a good opportunity to get your voice out there,” said vocal student Sophia Kudej.
The pre-show meal will be catered by Waldorf University. The menu is Sliced Roast Beef Brisket Au Jus, Parmesan Crusted Chicken, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Cesar Salad with a Breadstick, Fresh Fruit, Assorted Desserts, Lemonade, and Water.
Seating begins at 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. dinner.
The doors to the auditorium open at 7 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. show.
The cost is $25 for both the meal and the show. The cost for those only attending the show is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Tickets will be available in the high school office beginning Feb. 1.
Those who e-mail vocal music director Jen Boeding at email@example.com will have tickets delivered to anywhere in Forest City.
Only 144 dinner tickets are available, so Boeding recommends making reservations as soon as possible.
