Bill’s Family Foods has announced they will be closing their Forest City and Garner doors for business June 2 and will reopen as a Hy-Vee.
“We feel it’s better for the town, better for the organization if we go with a strong grocery presence in town that is community-oriented,” Bill’s owner Ken Korth said. “We feel it’s better for the future of the towns, for the future of our employees.”
Korth said Bill’s will serve the community through Memorial Day and then have a clearance sale through June 2.
Hy-Vee communications head Tina Potthoff said the Forest City store will start remodeling June 3 and is expected to reopen at 7 a.m. June 18. Similarly, the Garner store will start remodeling June 3 but will reopen June 8.

Potthoff said the Forest City store will definitely be a Hy-Vee grocery store, but they have not yet decided on the store format for the Garner store.
According to Korth, Hy-Vee bought the assets of Bill’s Family Foods, which brought on the change.
“We have thoroughly enjoyed serving both of our Forest City and Garner communities with quality groceries for the past 54 years,” the Korths’ said on their Facebook page. “We thank you for being our customers and part of our growing community.”
