EAGLE GROVE | The West Hancock girls team opened its season with a bang at the Sanger CoEd Relays, finishing in second place, with a team score of 117 points. 

Jade Oberhelman won the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.97, and Marissa Eekhoff finished third on the 200 meter dash with a 30.75. 

The Eagles had some success in high jump, as basketball star Rachel Leerar won the event with a height of four feet, two inches. Leah Aitchison came in second at four feet, earning eight points for West Hancock. 

Two more standout athletes, Amanda Chizek and Madison Eisenman, took the top spots in the shot put, as Chizek tossed the rock 33 feet, 11 inches. Eisenman was close behind, with a distance of 32 feet, 11.5 inches.

West Hancock finished second in both the 4x100 meter and 4x200 meter relays.

On Tuesday, the Eagles travel to Clarion-Goldfield, Thursday at Lake Mills and then Friday at Bishop-Garrigan.
