BRITT | The West Hancock boys team got a decisive win on Thursday, Jan. 31, beating North Iowa by 32 points, and sending the Bison to their ninth loss in the past 10 games.
The final score was West Hancock 80, North Iowa 48.
Senior Lucas Weiland was dominant, scoring 25 points on 7-of-17 shooting, including five 3-pointers. In addition, Weiland had five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Joe Smith and Gavin Becker both had great games that were overshadowed by Weiland. Smith scored 11 points, with eight rebounds, and Becker scored 12, with four rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
Bishop Garrigan scored 21 points in the first quarter of the game on Friday, Feb. 2 game, building a cushion that West Hancock could not overcome in a 75-63 win for the Golden Bears.
The scoring was fairly even in the latter stages of the game. West Hancock outscored Bishop Garrigan 18-17 in the second, then scored 16 in the third, and 17 points in the fourth. But the early 21-12 deficit was too much.
Lucas Weiland had a huge game for the Eagles, scoring 36 of the team's 63 points. Weiland went 7-of-10 from beyond the arc. Weiland is in the midst of a hot streak, having also scored 25 points in Thursday's game against North Iowa.
Lucas Weiland scored 17 points, and Tristan Hunt added 13, during West Hancock's 26-point win Saturday, Feb. 2.
The final score was West Hancock 56, Belmond-Klemme 30.
Hunt finished with 17 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Joe Smith had 12 points, six rebounds, four steals and three blocks.
Gavin Becker had eight points, and Brayden Leerar added four.
