EAGLE GROVE | The West Hancock boys team got off to a solid start in its first event of the year, taking third place in the Sanger CoEd Relays on April 1, with 11 team points. 

Josef Smith won the 110 meter hurdles, with a time of 15.50 seconds. Teammate Gavin Becker came in fifth, at 17 seconds. Brody Cox finished second in the discus finals, throwing the plate 112 feet, eight inches. 

Smith also won the long jump, leaping 20 feet, 10 inches, while Becker was close behind at 19-06.50. Chandler Redenius won the shot put, with a distance of 44-11.00.

The Eagles also had some success in relays, finishing second in both thr 4x100 meter, and 4x800 meter relays. The team also finished second in the 440 meter shuttle hurdle, with their runners finishing at 1:08.34.

The Eagles also competed on April 2, and April 5, at Belmond-Klemme and Clarion. Results were not available at press time. 

On Tuesday, the Eagles travel to Iowa Falls-Alden for a meet, then travel to Lake Mills on Friday.
