Progress on making the former bank building in Britt's downtown more stable for any possible restoration appears to be moving slow. Too slowly.
The Britt City Council must discuss a deadline for progress on temporary repairs and a second deadline for a sound plan to renovate the building. A sound plan means one with a defined financial backing and evidence that shows operational costs and related costs would be covered when a project is completed.
The city will need to pay to demolish the building if there is no solid plan to renovate it. Supporters, although loosely organized, have had more than a year to develop a renovation plan and a plan to raise money for renovation, as the roof continued to leak and the rear wall appeared to be weakening.
