Daughter of August and Sadie Rotschafer, she was born on June 5, 1923 in Wesley, Iowa. She and her sister Esther, brothers Leroy and Leonard enjoyed their early years on a farm near Woden, Iowa. On November 19, 1939, she married Calvin Perkins at Forest City, Iowa. After several short-lived moves they eventually established their home in Britt where Calvin began his automotive repair and wrecker service. Besides raising four energetic boys, she was the chief gopher for the garage. From cleaning greasy engine parts to driving to neighboring towns to pick-up parts, she was it. An accomplished self-taught cook and baker, our family enjoyed homemade breads, buns and delicious meals. She later worked for the Britt school lunch programs at the old grade school and then the high school. She truly enjoyed observing the youngsters as they progressed through grades. Upon retirement, they wintered in McAllen, Texas until Calvin's death in 1995.
She was an avid bowler, frequently winning team and individual awards. She was active with the VFW auxiliary, American Legion and her church, Evangelical Free.
She was preceded in death by Calvin (1995), sons Eugene (birth), Alan (2007), sister Esther (1971) and granddaughter Tammy (2018). Surviving are brothers Leroy and Leonard, sons Glen (Margaret), Dennis, Mike (Jan), daughter-in-law Marlys Perkins; Grandchildren Chip Perkins, Megan Perkins, Brian Perkins, Brenda Biddle; and 6 great-grandchildren.
