BRITT | A weekend of holiday festivities is coming to Britt.

Extended store hours for shopping, twinkling lights wrapped around Christmas trees and soup are just a few of the things slated for Thursday, Dec. 6, to Saturday, Dec. 8, in Britt.

Frozen Frolic

The festivities will kick off with the Frozen Frolic sponsored by the Britt Chamber of Commerce. Participating businesses will offer one-day only in-store specials during extended evening hours.

The extended hours allow locals and visitors to support the downtown businesses, enjoy activities and giveaways as well as get a jumpstart on holiday shopping.

Hours and sales vary by business.

Parade of Trees

The annual Parade of Trees is returning to the Britt Public Library.

The event — in its fourth year — will feature a variety of decorated themed trees that will be on display from Thursday, Dec. 6, through Saturday, Dec. 8.

The Parade of Trees was started by the nonprofit in 2015 as “a fun project.” The first year it was held in the Britt Community Center with 13 trees during the fire department’s soup supper, but two years ago, the event moved next door to the library to increase foot traffic in the library.

Trees may be brought to the library on either Tuesday, Dec. 4, or Wednesday, Dec. 5. Trees should be picked up on Monday, Dec. 10.

The public is invited to view the trees and vote for your favorite. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place and Children’s Choice. There is no cost to view the trees or decorate a tree for the event.

Britt Fire Department Soup Supper

The Britt Fire Department will host its annual soup supper from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Britt Municipal Building, 170 Main Ave. S.

Some of the soups available for the public to enjoy for a free-will donation are: chili, vegetable beef and oyster stew. There will also be sandwiches and Christmas cookies.

Proceeds from the supper will go toward replacing the department’s needs.
