GARNER | A traffic stop in mid-October led to multiple drug charges for a Garner man.

Sam William Velau, 53, was stopped by Garner police after the car he was driving was found to have a license plate belonging to another vehicle around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

According to court documents, police found Velau in possession of a Wintergreen Altoids tin containing small baggies filled with methamphetamine and marijuana after conducting a search of the vehicle before it was towed.

He was charged in Hancock County with possession of a controlled substance — third or subsequent offense, possession of marijuana — third or subsequent offense and driving while barred.
